One worry though, I only paid $20. I don’t think I got the option to pay $5 for shipping or I would have (gladly!) done so. Does that mean I don’t get it, or (even worse) that you lose on the deal? How can I fix this?

Would love to get this but can someone confirm that this is not Region 1format as I haven’t got a very sophisticated DVD player?

It is not region specific, but it is NTSC format not PAL so that may effect your player.
