Interns help with various duties, some are ordinary and menial, like running errands, filing paperwork, getting coffee. Some are awesome, like helping us film The Guild and other upcoming top secret projects, managing the VIP list for Comic-Con. There’s no pay, but cool perks and some great experience working for a company that is on the cutting edge of new media entertainment, social media and audience development. Wherever possible, we try to put interns on projects and tasks that will enhance your focus of study and/or career opportunities.

Interns work out of our offices in Burbank and the Valley, and other locations as needed.

A FEW ABSOLUTE *MUSTS* (we cannot take interns who do not meet these criteria):

- MUST be a currently enrolled college undergrad
- MUST be able to do the internship for college credit
- MUST reside in the LA metro area during the internship
- MUST have own transportation to Mid-Wilshire, the Valley and other LA-area locations

Updating our recent Long Beach Comic-Con post, we’re pleased to announce that production designer Greg Aronowitz will join the festivities and participate in the 10:15AM walking tour, the 1PM Q&A and the 2PM – 4PM signing (The Guild’s schedule is here).

For the first time, The Guild will be offering a high quality poster of Greg’s variant cover art for The Guild: Clara (one-shot) comic for $10, with Greg on hand to autograph them at the signing.

Artist Erik McKenney, the original character artist for The Guild, has given the original Guild avatars an updated look, which was first previewed in a pinup last month in the Clara one shot from Dark Horse Comics. Erik took the time to make these new avatars available for download in a multitude of different formats for The Guild fans.  First, he did a set of 100 pixel square icons for use with your IM/chat profiles:

 We know that last one is a ways away, but our UK Guildies often feel neglected so we’re excited to finally get across the pond (or return, in Felicia’s case) to meet with fans there.

There will be no Guild panel this year, however we will have a booth with several signings scheduled (stay tuned to our Twitter and Facebook for schedule announcements). Cast members Vincent Caso, Felicia Day, Amy Okuda and Robin Thorsen will be in attendance. The cast will also be special guests at the Curse party Friday night (October 21, 2011) at the Hilton.

Leonardo Nasca (Leo) hails from Florida, where he studied recording arts at Full Sail University. He’s a self-proclaimed “hardcore gamer” who plays and even competes on Xbox 360 games like Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty, he’s been a fan of The Guild since the first season.

He joined Twitter in November of 2010 to stay in touch with business contacts, and being a fan of The Guild, began following The Guild’s creator, Felicia Day. Felicia tweeted about needing help with the Art Department for an upcoming “Mystery Project,” which turned out to be Dragon Age: Redemption. Even though he wasn’t experienced in working for an Art Department, Leo joined the team and he worked on Dragon Age: Redemption as a prop maker. Following that, he worked on The Jeff Lewis Five Minute Comedy Hour where he met The Guild’s Sound Mixer, Sean Oakley. He impressed Sean so much that he was brought on to work for The Guild. Sean says, “His enthusiasm for audio carried over into Season 5 of The Guild when he worked on my team again as Sound Utility and helped make this season, in my opinion, one of the best sounding yet.”

As a member of the Sound Department, Leo works as Sound Utility. He helps the Sound Department with whatever is needed-whether it’s mic-ing up the actors or holding the boom pole. On days when extra footage is being shot, he gets to learn the ropes as the audio mixer.

He says, as most crew and cast members will agree, the most rewarding thing about working on The Guild is that everyone involved is one big family. Everyone knows their job, does it well and works hard. Because of this, he says, you can see the effect of the great teamwork and camaraderie not only in how smoothly production runs, but in the quality of the final product as well.

When The Guild isn’t filming, Leo stays busy by working Sound Department on other productions of both large and small scale. While he enjoys working on other projects, he says The Guild sets the bar for him and that he’ll always work for any member of The Guild family.

Dan Cooper is a former military man turned Camera Assistant who is originally from Arizona. Two of Dan’s childhood friends are Camera Assistants, and after Dan left the military, they helped get him started in the industry. Dan, who is also an avid Xbox player, stumbled upon The Guild while stationed overseas and has been watching it since Season One.

Dan saw the same tweet of Felicia’s that Leo responded to and applied to it as well. A month later Chris Darnell, the Director of Photography for The Guild, contacted him. Dan’s name had been passed along and ended up in Chris’ hands as a fan that wanted to work on the show. Chris says he was “reluctantly interested. I was expecting someone very green at best, but was happily surprised that Dan was a legit AC (Assistant Camera) who worked extremely hard and definitely knew what he was doing. He soon became an invaluable member of the crew.”

As a member of the Camera Department, Dan works as a Camera Assistant, in which his job is to pull focus for the B-Camera Operator. One of the cameras used in Season 5 was the Canon 5D and according to Chris, “pulling focus on a 5D with still lenses is every 1st’s nightmare, but Dan did a great job and never complained.” Dan impressed Chris so much that he said, “Without him, the camera team wouldn’t have been able to move as quickly as we did. He definitely deserves a big thank you from the entire Guild team for all his hard work this season.”

Dan agrees with Leo in that the most rewarding part about working on The Guild is that the cast and crew are like family. He says that while everyone knows his or her job and place on set, it’s an environment where you can joke around and have a great time. His favorite part is the comedy and says there is a great rapport between the cast and crew and because of that, there’s never a dull moment.

Outside of The Guild, Dan and some friends are working on funding and pre-production for a short film they wrote together and will co-direct. You can find out more about this project and how you can support it via Kickstarter.

Today also marks the debut of the new web series from The Guild’s production company Knights of Good Productions.  The series is Dragon Age: Redemption and is written by and stars Felicia Day:

He played the keyboard and accordion for one of Felicia Day’s favorite bands, The Ditty Bops and one of the band’s photographers knew Felicia through fan events.

He’s friends with the parents of the children who play Clara’s kids.

His wife was in a World of Warcraft guild that Felicia used to raid with.

So if all of these connections didn’t result in his involvement, how did he finally get included?

When the idea for a barbershop quartet to open the costume contests came up, production coordinator TJ Rotell decided to ask his friend to help.  That friend? Greg Rutledge.

“I have been friends with Greg for many, many years and he’s a wildly talented musician.  We always talked about wanting to work together and as soon as producers Kim Evey and Felicia Day approached me about putting together the Mega-Game-O-Rama Con quartet, I immediately thought of him,” said TJ.

Once they had decided on the collaboration, it was time to change the concept into reality.

As the self proclaimed “poor man’s Seth McFarlane,” Greg said that he enjoys writing lyrics if they’re comedy.

While the barbershop quartet song was comedic, Greg said he didn’t feel comfortable writing convincing lyrics about a gaming convention because he is not a gamer.  So he whipped up a melody and sent it off to TJ for lyrics.

“Between [Felicia’s] ideas and my own love of the convention world, I was able to piece together the lyrics for the song.  It’s a love/hate song that often calls back some personal experiences I’ve had at conventions myself,” said TJ.

Working off of the lyrics, Greg made a new melody, orchestrated and arranged the song, recorded a demo (in which he sung all of the parts), and sent it off.   When it came to make the final version, they decided to keep Greg as the main vocalist.

“Everyone said it didn’t sound right without my voice.”

While not a gamer himself, Greg certainly understands the general mindset.  His wife is an avid gamer with multiple level 80 characters in WoW.

“When my band was touring, I’d have to choose hotels with internet.”

Greg works at part-time at Santa Monica College as a professor teaching theater and sound and video design.   He has a band that he tours with around Southern California and regularly appears at Treasure Island in Las Vegas.  He also has been writing music for a new musical web series as well as working on the production of  ‘Cesar and Ruben’ at Santa Monica College.
