I usually ask this on forums..or just when I talk to people. I watch a lot of movies, since I go to film school it actually helps me in a way. Anyway, say your 3 most favorite movies. You can tell why, but dont have to lol.
Anyway, mine are:
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Just plain awesomeness, this movie is completely hillarious. Johnny Depp as always manages to play the most weirdest of the personalities. It's made from a novel with the same name. Mostly it's about one journalist and his lawyer who travel on an insane drug trip to Vegas. Movie is incredibly fun and is just made of epic quotes. “We can't stop here, this is bat country!”
Pulp Fiction BMO this movie doesnt need an introduction. Tarantino's best movie and always will be.
Battle Royale Or Batoru Rowairu. Made from a novel, a japanese film. One of their greatest. It's about future Japan where the youth is taking over and the adults fear that this is coming to an end. Because of that a class of nine-graders are captured and are forced to proceed with the revolutionary act of Battle Royale

Battle Royale? I'm actually reading that book right now, and yeah, it's pretty much amazing.
Let's see, my favorites (If I had to choose only three):
The Legend of Drunken Master
One of Jackie Chan's earlier films, but probably the best, if not one of the best, he's ever done.
The Terminal
A movie with Tom Hanks playing the part of Viktor Navorski, a man stuck in the New York airport. I just think it's great.
The Lord of the Rings (I'm counting this as one)
There are many more that I enjoy, some more intense than others, but these are just three that I would consider watching on a day to day basis.

And now, farewell to kindness, humanity and gratitude… I have substituted myself for Providence in rewarding the good; may the God of vengeance now yield me His place to punish the wicked.

Wow, this is tough. This list would probably change from one day to the next, but I'll give it a shot (and then be irritated later when I change my mind or realize I forgot something).
In no particular order:
The Killer (John Woo)
a nice classic like Casablanca
. . . and I'll round out the list with something that inspires a great feeling of nostalgia like Ghostbusters, Goonies or The Princess Bride.

Only 3? That's difficult. How about my favorite non-english films, that's a little bit narrower category, making it a tad easier :D
Run Lola Run (German)
Princess Mononoke (Japanese)
Pan's Labyrinth (Spanish)

8 + 3 isn't 9?! Now I feel real stupid…i'll blame it on 6 hours of sleep though.
Yeah, I really wanna see that movie. I'm a fan of Jackie Chan (at least his older work..not the newer stuff) and Jet Li.

1. The Shawshank Redemption
2. Gettysburg
3. Tossup between Star Wars 4-6 and LoTR (all 3)
