Was waiting all night for the premiere…then it didn’t show up on xbox live when i looked so i paniced and came here..glad i did, the episode was awesome as i expected and for some reason i could not stop staring at the octopus hat on clara’s head

This game was never WoW from the beginning. This gives Felicia the freedom to explore things like guild halls.

Remember, there are six guildies, while in WoW a party is 5. You could argue raids, but in WoW, raids now start at 10.

Anyway, I think this way you could still compare it to your game, while others to theirs.

Great episode. The audio was the best it has been, and the writing was great. It seemed like this was much longer than 5 1/2 minutes, lots of great dialogue packed in there. Can’t wait for the rest of the season.

I do Look closely at the trailer — they meet up at least two more times, one in which they’re wearing formal clothing and another when they’re in some kind of restaurant or coffee shop. I’m willing to bet they go on at least one more date.

Yeeeessssssssss Finally…

So I had a weird question…one of the things that I like about this series (the past seasons) was the, to me, realistic language (the swearing). I luckily watched it on You Tube and didn’t realize I guess there’s an edited version? So my question is will this season follow the same way or has it been cleaned up? I hope not…not trying to say that swearing makes things better, but to me that IS how a lot of gamers talk.

BTW…I think I’m the only one that loves that Codex is involved with Wil Wheaton…aka…Westly Crusher (TNG). I also realize that me mentioning this is probably annoying but I can’t help it, it’s a star trek illness. I also apologize for the misspellings.

I have to agree with Kontext’s comment, I check weekly for episodes to be available on uk iTunes store for download. I see that the comics are there (and purchased) any idea when the seasons are going to be available ?

I’m so glad that I stumbled across you guys site, I’ve been playing MMO’s since I was 12 back with the original EverQuest and have done the whole WoW craze, but I personally am a diehard EverQuest and EverQuest 2 fan and I’m so glad that you guys don’t just reference one game just for hits. I like the idea of Zaboo’s mom doing the sabotage. I think it makes more sense than Fawkes (which is the obvious choice. Felicia said herself that she wanted to avoid cliches this season).

32bit or 64bit?

Anyone notice that this episode, while still good, seemed to have a layer of cheese on it? If they aren’t careful, this could go the way of the last season of Northern Exposure. These kinds of shows start to creak under their own weight, and characters start to “grow” and “stretch” in ways that lose touch with their original psyche. I hope that doesn’t happen here. The fake passing out scene with Zaboo was dumb. Fun series though.

(1) What’s this talk about sabotage? It’s not all that rare for a computer’s power supply to spontaneously burst into flames.

(2) This is the last episode of The Guild that I will ever watch. I was hoping that the last ten seconds of Season 3 were just a nightmare that Codex had… but no, Felicia went George Lucas on us and destroyed the character that she had created for herself. This is almost as bad as when Red and Blue stopped fighting each other and left Blood Gulch in “Red vs. Blue: the Blood Gulch Chronicles”

It’s not any particular game and uses elements from MMO’s in general. It is most definitely NOT Guild Wars (there aren’t Gnomes in GW) – the Guild Hall is the only similarity, and even EverQuest has one of those). It’s closest to WoW, which at least Codex and Vork actually play (and their character outfits are definitely WoW-style), but there are things that are mentioned that are most definitely not WoW either. It’s a made-up MMO. They even said somewhere that they can’t use any particular MMO for copyright reasons.

Season 4 and you only just noticed the cheese?

The show is like a pizza – the cheese lies atop other important layers, like the crust of geeky humor, and the sauce of fun plot lines. Amidst the cheesy goodness we have a fine topping of great characters.

But the pizza without the cheese? Blech!

Well Felicia Day said she really wanted this is be loosely based on her own life. And that includes having her own character grow to be less dependent and courageous.

G-Max, get over yourself! Guild, you all are doing a great job. I love every episode! Some people just take this stuff too seriously – it’s supposed to be “cheesy”, that’s what makes it so funny and great! After all, they’re making fun of online gaming and I love it! Yes, I’m a gamer, and I love see them make fun of it because yes, it actually hits the nail on the head, in a round about sort of way.

Are you serious? She didn’t destroy her character at all. Did you not see her hidden need for love and acceptance from EVERYONE since episode 1? Lots of people give in to sleeping with people when they finally fulfill that need. That was a perfectly normal situation that I have seen happen to many a people. Great start to a highly anticipated 4th Season. To those not personally initiated into the deeper realms of MMOGs the humor of Codex vs The Collective’s responses may be fuddling, outstandingly though the episode pulls off the large scale interactive comedy. Keep them coming!

I agree with G Max. Felicia completely ruined the image she created when she decided to write that she sleeps with the douchebag into the show.

Respect and admiration for Sid was at an all time high from season 1 – 3 up until the last moments of the finale when she basically told everyone “Yep, I’m just another stupid girl.” If that’s the message that Felicia is trying to push, that the assholes will end up getting the girl and it’s alright to treat women like shit, I no longer want to watch.

I thought it was an okay episode. I’m kinda surprised the majority of the post says its a great start to the season.
In the entire episode Codex was just not really funny. In fact, I found her to be annoying. The conversation between the guild is great and funny as usual, but I just didn’t care about Codex going all the way with the guy. I’ll have to see the second episode to see if I will continue to watch.

Its not a bad episode…but i do see what the original poster means … they sorta seemed rushed….and a tad cheesier than previous years. I think sometimes when it becomes an institution…they try TOO hard to please and thus get some over acting… still good funny episode tho!

Rushed? Or faster pace? The timing is amazing. I was looking at last season and from Wits End to the finale episode of Season 3 the pace picks up. I think this first episode starts where Season 3 ends, and what a great beginning. Felicia had such a talent for writing. We get a recap, new story lines, Zaboo’s mom returns and a new character all in one episode. Very cool

I liked it. the fake passing out was just as funny cuz Zaboo himself is a stupid kinda funny. i think its also funny how people over analyze everything from shows, games, and other people. I wish i cared that much about random stuff.

Loved Zaboo wrapping his phone in tin foil to disrupt the signal instead of just not answering. Classic – can’t wait for the rest of the series.

i think a lot of people missed the fact that fawkes doesn’t think they’re dating. he considered it a one night stand. codex just hasn’t caught on yet. and she did say she normally didn’t drink that much, so it was a drunken mistake. pretty sure there’s lots of that around. i don’t think she variated from character all that much at all.

I think they started this season off good. I’m personally surprised as to how many people don’t see the possibilities of good story telling here. First of all Codex has been living in a secluded world up to her interactions with her guild members. Fawkes being defeated of course threw chaos into the victory by taking advantage of a girl who was still very new to confidence, and thus still unable to keep it. People let themselves be pushed into dumb situations every day. Without having seen any trailers or anything, I think this could lead to her becoming stronger and getting her guild behind her in obviously not just defeating the Anarchist, but dominating them. Each member of the Guild still has issues that need resolving with the anarchist. This could just be one of Codex’s. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to walk out on the show before the credits have even began. Don’t judge until the story has had a chance to explain itself. Besides for those who still doubt her characters involvement with Fawkes. Her avatar did tell her she was on the brink of insanity. lol.

When she slept with Fawkes at the end of season 3 I hoped for this to be a joke, not something that would start the new season. However, the episode is good, but I hope that Fawkes “Breaks up” with Codex, as I prefered her character like she was at the start of the show.

You know, a lot of folk are mentioning cheesyness of it, but actually, I was just looking at comic of guild 1 or pre make demo of it which seems to be a prequil to s1e1 and Syd’s last boyfriend was also a jerk.

Her trying to forge a relationship with another jerk might be a deeper plot line than simply cheese. It seems like an aspect of her pathology is being explored.

I know women like this IRL who don’t choose the devoted zaboo type folk that tell them they are the awesomest folk in the world; but instead choose people who are bad for them. Who hurt them emotianally, and make them feel bad about themselves.

It often seems to happen when things are otherwise looking up in their lives. Like they NEED to feel unworthy or undeserving or unloved for some reason in order to balance out the good. There’ some metapghore about always waiting for the hammer to fall.

What Syd realy needs to do is find a new/beter psycologist. She deserves so much beter than the likes of fawkes, but I think is unable to realise that.

OTOH, being a Joss whedon fan perhaps Felicia wont write Fawkes as staying a jerk. If she’s taking inspiration from Joss, he’s had the power of love redeem two demons and bring them back to the light in his day; so perhaps we can hope Syd’s love will redeem Fawkes and make him change from villain to hero.

I think you should stop talking now this show gets better with ever episode and Zaboo fainting had me rolling with laughter!!!

Ironically enough, this episode reminded me a lot about the strange circumstances involved with how I managed to get together with my (now) husband. We were in opposite guilds both playing the same game, his side was responsible for maintaining the game, ours was responsible for improvement and design and we spent long hours at each other’s throats. Recipie for happiness. Maybe.

Overall it tugged at my heartstrings and made me LOL. A few portions were overly dramatized to the point that some may view it as cheesy, but it’s all within context and believable. I mean think about it, Zaboo gave up everything to be with Codex using what he viewed was a relationship but turned out to be a one sided infatuation. He’s not the most manly type around, and his first intimate relationship lands him with a dominatrix. He’s come from a cloistered life, to the real world out on his own. I think a little fainting spell, followed by a few passionate nights with a bottle are to be expected.

Best part of this episode is watching Codex trying to explain things: ABSOLUTELY GOLD. Explaining things to your guildies is always harder than explaining things to your parents. (Atleast your parents gloss over certain details most of the time).

Though I’m still confused if it was a really burnt burger (but as it looks, the burgers on the grill are raw in the middle, chared on the outside, and not actually in the shape of a burger patty) or an actual charcoal brickette Bladezz decided to put in a bun which is even more hilarious. Classic.

The way Codex’s guilt got her to blurt out the sordid details after a random lewdened comment by Bladezz was masterful. Clara continues to be the most essential supporting character by keeping the rest of the Guild from taking themselves too seriously. Loved her “Achievement Unlocked!” and Zaboo’s “should have never disconnected those security cameras” lines. Codex’s computer breakdown would have been even funnier if it happened after Zaboo desperately said, “Alright, just tell me you didn’t *insert extremely slutty sex act that Cyd would NEVER do*” and just before she screamed, “Of course I didn’t!” but I guess it’s better to leave the details to the viewers imagination to avoid stepping over anyone’s perv threshold.

This episode feels different. I like it and it has it’s usual quirks but I can’t place the difference. Felicia isn’t quite her meek, quirky nerd girl. She suddenly more bold, jittery, idk…I haven’t slept yet. I still love Clara.

I can’t watch Series 4 anywhere!!! Everywhere I go to watch it I get blank screens or vids that never start. I am as adicted to this show as the characters are to the game. I hope to see episodes on Youtube soon, I know I can watch them there.

I always wait for the entire season to be over before I watch, I tried doing it one episode at a time in season 3, but it always left me really really wanting to see the next episode to find out what happens. Stumbled on this when season 2 was just finished….been hooked ever since. Outstanding job to everyone who takes part in this show on and off camera.
Why this isnt a tv show yet is beyond me but they still keep making more episodes for us to watch so..can’t complain.
