‘The Guild’ DVD in Retail Stores Today
Today marks the release of the new Season 1 and Season 2 DVD release. While the individual seasons have been available from us at conventions or on Amazon.com, this release is exciting because it means The Guild is now in retail stores!
The content on the discs is exactly the same as the previous DVD releases, the only difference is this release packages both DVDs in one case, there’s new packaging artwork and there’s a bonus “Note from Felicia” inside. As of this post, the confirmed retail outlets that will be carrying this are FYE, Suncoast and Coconuts. Check your local retailer, too, as they may be stocking it – and if they aren’t, ask them to! Oh, and Netflix users, you can help us by posting a review of the DVD and adding it to your queue – this will help encourage Netflix to add the discs to their inventory. Here’s the Netflix link.
We’re celebrating the release of this DVD with a contest – please post a photo of yourself purchasing this DVD in a retail store today (9/29) and we’ll pick 10 winning pictures to receive an autographed DVD. You can either post your picture to our Facebook page as a Fan Photo (here’s the link) or post to Twitter with the hashtag #myguilddvd. (Note: we reserve the right to pick the winners at random if there are too many entries!). Contest ends at midnight Pacific Time.

Maybe I’m crazy here, but why exactly would the winner of this contest need another copy of the DVD, autographed or not?
Yeah, we considered that – but the DVD publisher will provide the prizes for us promoting the DVD, so there you have it.
No one *needs* a duplicate, autographed set, but one really good use of this would be to keep the autographed set for yourself and use your purchased one as a loaner/”conversion set” (to borrow from the Browncoats’ playbook!).
If it would be such a tragedy to get a second set, then we’d probably come up with an alternate prize.
If having a second copy is that big of a dilemma, then may be you don’t need the autographed one?
My point is not that I don’t need a second copy. Well maybe it is a little bit. =) But my actual point is that having the prize for a contest which requires you to buy the DVD be the exact same DVD falls on the side of redundant. It’s an observation, not an attack. Sorry if I offended anyone. Anyway, looking forward to checking out the DVD.

Besides, a Guild DVD contest is best if it induces people (like me!) to by the product, moving some inventory and making some profit!

Massive D-Face! I got mine online from Amazon.com. And it wont be here for a couple of days. Curse my love of internet shopping! *shakes fist* Can I post a picture of me opening my amazon.com box, and showing the DVD to my cats for their viewing pleasure?
Online purchasers – go ahead, post your pic with the new DVD. Maybe put the order screen for the DVD on your computer screen in the background. We’ll accept that.

Great news! I know I missed the chance to pick this up for the contest, but I will be grabbing my copy after classes tomorrow. Please keep us updated on the success of the retail DVD sales. I hope you guys make bags of money (the ones with the dollar signs on them)!

Best Buy carries them online for now, but they may get them in store if they get enough orders.

I hope I win. I almost gave up looking for it (after looking at 5 retailers) and then noticed a cart in the corner with dvds on it at Hastings. I think that there was only one Guild dvd on it. When I mentioned that I needed to get a photo of it while I was purchasing it for a contest the guy gave me a really weird look but then agreed to it. I should see if I can get salespeople other places to hold up random things and get pictures of it.

I also found mine at Hastings. No other retails had it though, including ABUGames.com which is a way cooler local gamer shop. Oh well. At least The Guild gets some money!

Stalk Target employees until they agree to stock it? But not really. I don’t know. I think they have a feedback thing on their site. I would just get a bunch of people together to put in requests for them to start stocking it. Here is the link to the form asking about products:

Even if your local store doesn’t carry it, you can order from FYE online. I ordered Season 2 on Amazon before this announcement, and cancelled because I could buy Season 1 and 2 together, online, at FYE’s online store. Of course, I can’t photography myself buying it, but that’s alright. I’ve only recently watched the Guild episodes, and I wanted to buy the DVD to support the show. Thank-you for making the episodes available for free.
