EDIT:
Per request we are posting the lyrics to the song!
MUSIC AND LYRICS BY FELICIA DAY AND JED WHEDON

LYRICS:
Hang with me in my MMO
So many places we can go
You’ll never see my actual face
Our love, our love will be in a virtual space

I’m craving to emote with you
So many animations I can do
Be anything you want me to be
Come on, come on, share a potion with me

CHORUS:
Do you wanna date my Avatar
She’s a star
And she’s hotter than reality by far
Wanna date my Avatar?

You can type commands
I’ve got slots for what I hold in my hands
Don’t care what’s in your character bank
How ‘bout, How ‘bout a little tank and spank

Grab your mouse and stroke the keys
Here in cyberspace there’s no disease
Pick a time, send a tell to me
Just pay, just pay a small subscription fee

CHORUS

Single white human,
Looking for group
My stats so high
Don’t be out of the loop

Got an uber-leet staff
That you can equip
Close your mouths ladies
This is pure nerd-nip

I’m a pixel-based fantasy
A man who is stoic
I hack and slash
Who the heck’s more heroic?

Check me out:
Cloth armor
Fits me like a glove
Just twitta a time
And I’m ready for love

Hang with me in my MMO
So many places we can go
I’m better than a real world quest
You’ll touch, my plus 5 to dexterity vest

What role do you wanna play
I’m just a click away night or day
And if you think I’m not the one
Log off, Log off and we’ll be done

Thank you so much and stay tuned for Season 3 rollout, just around the corner! August 25th on Xbox Live and September 1rst on MSN/ZUNE!

Lol, leave it to a feminist to ruin something fun. If they’re not screaming about something they’re not a TRUE feminist apparently.

Anyways, lovelovelove the video and am a definite fan after this video. Keep up the fantastic work, this stuff is hilarious to an MMO player like myself :)

Great video! Love the sheepish look that Felicia gives at the end… it’s like a bit of the real life Codex comes through after her online persona dances and sings so confidently and beautifully

Awesome show, I like Codex’s monologues the best… but there are lots of choice lines throughout. The writing is incredible!

My 6 year old daughter is addicted to this song…good thing she doesn’t have a therapist who can fire her over it (although her daddy is drawing the line at 4 repetitions per day).

Our whole family are gamers, moms, dads, papas, brothers, sisters, uncles, etc…and this whole premise is SO spot on! (Especially giving my love to Clara, the gamer-mom!) Please keep things going…I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Lighten up. Geez you give us feminists a bad name. And you know what? I think Felicia Day is an excellent role model. She’s pretty, funny, and can hold her own against the world. That’s a real woman.

I play a sexy blood elf priest in WoW and I deal with a lot of chauvinism from day to day and I LOVED this video. Catchy tune, FANTASTIC dancing, amusing nerdy references and everything.

    Posted August 24, 2009 at 8:27 am | Permalink

That Stephanie B. person has obviously never played an MMO before. Speaking as a WoW geek, there was a time when my avatar was hit on numerous times by an insistent n00b – I expressed disinterest, then told the person I was a dude when that didn’t work, and he was like, “I don’t care, your avatar’s hot!” (Creepily enough, I was an undead priest at the time. If you don’t know, the undead are, like, the opposite of hot, unless you’re into saggy boobs and/or necrophilia.)

Also, I thought Clara’s role in the video greatly represented my own experiences as a mage. I have my character constantly drinking something to get her mana back, and in a way, mages are akin to group royalty (hence Clara’s throne) – we sit back and let our “armies” (tanks) take the damage. My reasoning is a bit of a stretch, I know, but it makes sense in my head. :P

I took Zaboo’s comment about the ladies and their mouths to mean that their jaws dropped in shock, not “big pen0r? okay, I’m ready to blow you now! =O” Anyone with half a brain not devoted to victimizing their own gender through deluded notions of patriarchal oppressions could’ve seen that, I think.

I’m all for feminism, but not when it’s acidic like that, and not when it insists that all women everywhere are still in the subordinate role. There are still some areas of life that are like that, true, but dude – lighten up a little.

But I digress. The Guild, the video was awesomely hilarious (and relate-able, as I mentioned above), and it got me into your web-show, which is equally awesome and hilarious. I got my fiance to watch the videos with me, and I’ve been spreading that music video like it’s creamy peanut butter. ^.^

@Imaria, @benzo8, @Shirila, @V, @Shane, @Amy Stardust: thanks for the lesson! I have to say I’ve never come across the “+X to Stat” phrasing… always just “+X Stat”; “+5 dexterity vest” rather than “+5 to dexterity vest”.

    I guess I’m a newb. :p

All the wacky faux-feminism issues aside, I really love this music video, and I’m not even a gamer (The last games that I played substantially were on Nintendo 64, and Super NES before that)!!

I love this vid so much, that I’ve had to watch it like a billion times in the past week, join this site’s forum, watch all of the episodes (hadn’t even seen them before), and I can’t get this song out of my head!!! lol

Anyways, just wanted to tell the whole cast & crew that they are amazing and I am looking forward to all that they will be doing in the future!

    Thanks,

That..was hilarious. I had such a good time just watching that music video. The lyrics sold me most of all though. I love innuendos and they were so clever and witty I couldn’t help but re-watch this at least three times. The dance scenes and the random moments with Bladez were just as funny. Oh, and I LOVE when Vork and Zaboo spit. That was hilarious lol. You ALL did an amazing job with this. I’m very glad I chose to finally sit down and give this a watch. The production and quality was so impressive and so high..that it blows A LOT of songs that come on the radio NOW (and again..video was amazing..Tink..is a real beauty heh..I’m glad she danced cause it was very good). Please, make more just like that. The flow and beat were mellow and great (and the quick rap session flowed SO well. MAJOR points for diversity).

    Can’t wait for episode 2. ;)

  25. Posted September 3, 2009 at 1:28 am | Permalink

So I have to admit that after years of my D&D, Cyberpunk, and LARP friends trying to get me to try WoW, it was finally this video that broke down the barriers. After seeing the video on Xbox LIVE I downloaded all of seasons one & two. I wathced them all back to back, laughing through the cramps in my sides. After seeing the comradre that is possible in a guild (parody or not) I decided to finally give in and try out WoW. I love it, I love all the people I have met in game and I love Felcia for helping me to realize that cool, hot girls are allowed to play MMOs also.

After reading just about all the posts on here I can’t help but comment…sigh…I consider myself to be semi-femenist aka Anti-FemiNazi. As mentioned before this is simply a video about everyones make believe charcter. See it as an imaginary friend if you will, our avatars are an extension of ourselves. And yes everyone is beautiful in their own way, so What is wrong with showing our beauty through our avatars? Sexy or not?

The problem with women is they still view themselves as a 100% separate entity from men. When you stop viewing things in black and white/ male and female/ geek or cool person those barriers will naturally tumble. People are people, the world is grey – learn that and sexism and femenism will slide to the wayside.

On a happy note I have the video saved on my Xbox, it is a favorite on YouTube and I just bought the mp3 from Amazon! Can’t wait to see the rest of season 3 and hopefully more music videos *nudges ‘Guild Management’*

Just thought i’d applaud the quality of the music. very catchy and something i definately wouldn’t mind listening to on my mp3 while sat on the bus.

As feminism seems to be becoming an issue i’d like a show of hands as to how many masculinists are here…….oh yeah thats right none. to even bring the topic of sexual abuse into a comment on a music video suggests something about your personality. the first thing i need to say on this subject is men get sexually abused too. that door swings both ways and a dude prancing around in armour is just as alluring to the ladies as a girl is to men (i should know because i’ve been to a few LARP events and seen the effects armour has on the ladies) so if you want to make comments like that don’t make it sound like only the girls would get it. i’m sure many women out there would love to show Vork a damn good time……end of rant.

@ Stephanie B you do know the way this video is is playing on the actions of the way the actors are irl and the way their characters are protrayed in the game Codex was a supposive flirt leading Zaboo on but shared no interest in being with him irl.
Zaboo is a creepy guy who stalks people and uses unnecissary Sexual comments so the term “close your mouths ladies” would be playing on his character..
Tink is a dancer irl so it would be no surprise if she wanted to do backup dancing for the video
Clara yes may be fat irl but the video is not saying that at all sure she eats food in a flirting way but Clara’s character in the show is a flirt as well and SHE is a frost mage and Mages are generally drinking water and what not and who says its a high calorie drink for all you know that could just be water….in a goblet
Bladezz in the show his character is a 16 yr old boy who is a flirt your typical horny teenager flirting with any chick he sees that finds hot so it would be no surprise as well if in the video he was surrounded by woman…
And lastly Vork..is a warrior and generally warriors have high ammounts of stats in a game cause they where plate gernally not only that in the show his character stole his neighbors internet and shed so the use of “hack” would make sense he also deals with a chinese gold farmer.

And as another thought in MMO games there are chicks and sometimes men who do this to get what they want

chicks will manipulate guys in game to get gear or gold or whatever they want I play WoW and I know a lot of them and yes they are chicks irl and being a chick that doesn’t approve of this I don’t really get along with them. and I also have to deal with guys like Zaboos character constantly hitting on me so the show does play up to real MMO encounters even though they play a game that doesn’t really exsist Felcia Day used to Be addicted to DND and WoW and so she made this show based on what she knew and probably expirience from playing it and she did a good job this show is great
And theres men who will pretent they are chicks to get attention and also gear and what not I’ve seen it and its sad…

I’m a chick myself and I don’t see any thing anti femanist about this video its funny

This is your best work yet; everyone who worked on it outdid themselves. It was cool to see your actors playing their characters playing their characters.

Only a few nits from an amateur but aspiring videographer. Would have liked to see more backgrounds besides just the plain white scrim. (Yes, I know the white scrim makes editing easier, but the prettiest shots by far were the ones with backgrounds. Also, if you green screen some of the backgrounds in, you can edit a whole bunch and the backgrounds will not jump.) Lip synching could have been better (though it does mean a lot of chanting as you’re filming). Some cuts were a bit quick; couldn’t really catch the flow of the dance routine. But still, again, your best work and I’m sure you will do even better stuff in the future.

I do not see how this video could be anti-feminist…
Althought i do think Felicia did a great job on the show, and i am spreading the word about it to my friends.

” Do you wanna date my avatar” is a fantastic song, because its not neccessairly the kind of manistream music that you hear on the radio. The song has a catchy beat, and the lyrics are hilarious. I dont play Wow so i am not familiar with the terms used in the song, but after some research i understand :P .

Im probably the youngest fan of the show(im 12),but i think its amazing and very well-writen. If any cast members or writers of the guild actually read the comments, then i would like to say to them nice work and keep it up.

The Guild is definetly a show worth watching :)
