Yeah I waited so long and now it’s not available in Austria.
I mean it’s even available in Switzerland.
I hope I can download it from the German Marketplace or any MP for that matter.

So it’s out, but if we don’t have a Gold account we’ll have to wait? This is a letdown, I’m sure many others will feel equally annoyed that we have to wait.

Thumbs down for Xbox, thumbs down for going with this.

It’ll be out Monday elsewhere. This is the only episode that will premier on Xbox Live first.

To be fair I am an Xbox gold subscriber and did get to see the episode. But I don’t see a lot of difference in waiting one more week. Nice little perk for Gold members, without really negatively effecting the fan base. The amount of time between episodes is usually greater then a week. The first episode was good though.

I would rather have a better episode, because I realy hope microsoft is paying them a lot of money for this privlege, than a cheap one quickly. it works for blizzard and it works for me.

So you’re disappointed because you won’t get to see it early like the people that have gold? Those of us that do have gold pay $8 per month for this reason. We get to play on XboxLive and we get perks such as seeing the first episode of season 3 early. Being a gold member has it’s perks. If you don’t pay for it, then don’t be angry. It’s your choice not to see it.

I used to belong to XBox gold/beta thingy but why make it an exclusive unless xbox helped the show and paid them a good amount for the exclusive. Good to see the series making some cash for their efforts. Just a bit let down to know it is only on the xbox and not other sites/devices.

This. is. fucking. bullshit. First, people on youtube have to wait MONTHS for season two, they couldnt even put up a video saying we could watch it on msn. And now, August 25 has come around and, despite the fact it was publicized as the season premiere date across all outlets, turns out it’s just for xbox live people! Yippee for them! But for those of us who odnt have xbox live, we are yet again screwed out of watching the guild. I would have rather waited a longer time for season 2 and 3 to be done off of donations than to be screwed out of it because of microsoft.

    • Posted August 26, 2009 at 10:27 am | Permalink

      Hi Ben,

Not being on youtube for months definitely sucked. Youtube rules don’t allow you to post videos that tell you to go to another website.

On a good note, the first episode will be the only one that will be “exclusive”.

    • Posted August 26, 2009 at 12:51 pm | Permalink

If we waited for donations for seasons 2 and 3 we would not have made this show, period. The amount of money we got from donations did not even cover our costs. Me and Kim, my co-producer, have worked for 2 years on this show and STILL have to have other jobs to support our web video work: this show does NOT pay our bills. The fact we can pay our crew and actors though is the reason we can continue to film, and that is solely because of Xbox. Like I said in my comment below, yes, it wasn’t communicated as well as it could’ve been, decisions were made that, in retrospect, should’ve been done differently and we apologize for that. For all the hard work we put in all day EVERY day for this show it makes me sad to disappoint people, but also makes me sad that people can’t understand the struggles we go through to even get ANYTHING made. Hopefully my comments and apologies suffice.

I think the fact that everyone is mad that they can’t have it now proves just how good your work is Felicia. We waited this long for Season 3, I am pretty sure 1 more week won’t kill anyone. You guys are doing a fantastic job, I am constantly amazed at the quality of the production. Well done and thank you for putting so much time into this with so little return.

DW Felicia, this fan is happy to watch the guild wherever I can :) I even bought your video to help support it… then enjoyed it so much it was worth it anyway, you should put on the costume again, either for another music vid or for a guild episode. whatever you do the show rocks my only beef with it is that its too short, I dont know anything about the logistics or anything but if you started making full length episodes for tv I would watch that. BTW are you completly off MMOs or what coz atm I’m waiting for Aion to come out and the awesomest thing ever would be to find you on it (this is more of a if I won the lottery wish than a please don’t let me miss the bus wish)

Can you make a Wikipedia style “donation bar”
so ppl will see how much is needed to donate and how
        much was donated?

I think (and hope) it will increase the amount of the donations..

        + make a “non-product” donation option.

        Hi Felicia,

Just want to say I love The Guild and the effort you and the entire cast and crew put into it – I didn’t realise it still wasn’t paying a “living wage” despite it’s brilliant popularity. I know you don’t get much (if anything) from the YouTube videos, but I hope my purchase of Date My Avatar via iTunes (both the video and audio versions) and I promise I will buy both series of The Guild from Amazon.co.uk as soon as it is available!

Please make it easier for us non-USians to purchase your brilliant series (and ask Sandeep to do the same for LoN: I can’t buy that in Amazon UK or iTunes UK either :( ).

While I have sympathy for folks whose yearning aches, I hope that they eventually take a deep breath and reevaluate their feelings. (a) If you’re getting something for free, you can’t really be too demanding. (b) If you want to find information on the interwebz, there are better methods than waiting for announcements on Youtube (however awesome Youtube may be). (c) The idea that you’re being screwed because you don’t get something as early as people who are paying for it is… well, just realize that you are getting something thanks to other people paying for it. (d) *If* the release dates were confusing, it was surely unintentional. If anything, the sponsor would be happy to point out that you could watch it earlier by becoming a paying customer. If you choose not to pay, recognize that’s your choice and wait patiently for your free gift.

I, for one, am really grateful to the artists who have produced this stuff. I wouldn’t even criticize them for rewarding suck-ups by sending them free autographed stuff (email me for mailing address), even if I had to wait a whole week or two.

But the most important point I have to make is: I choose to pronounce “XOOX” like “Zooks,” rather than thinking of it as hugs and kisses. I hope either Xoox, Zooks, or something similar is still available on the server. I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up. Posting this before I get home is a big mistake…

My wife and I just discovered the show. We loved it and were very happy to contribute to its success by purchasing seasons 1 and 2.

I know that not everyone is in the position to do this, but I hope that some of you will consider the amount of work that goes into something like this. To complain that you don’t get it faster for free when the creators can’t even meet their costs is poor form.

So, skip something else indulgent, buy a season or two and support a wonderful, quirky show that would never have been made by a network.

Thanks so much to all of you involved with the project! Keep them coming I’ll keep watching and buying.

        Codex,
I only just discovered The Guild recently and stopped playing LOTRO for a time last night (well I actually watched while on many slow horses between cities doing Bounty Quests)and I thoroughly enjoyed all of Season 1 & 2. Please be patient with those who may be impatient to see the newest episodes. Their quality and cleverness are as addictive as the MMOs that are your subject matter. They have actually inspired me to take a new route with some writing I’m doing myself focusing on the old school pencil & paper AD&D gaming sessions my friends and I played in my youth in the 80s. We’ll see what develops. Thanks again for sharing all your time and effort for our entertainment.

Felicia, why are you apologizing? I mean I know you are probably doing it to keep it professional..but seriously…f**k those who don’t get reality. Reality = things cost money….how people don’t understand that is well beyond my logic.

I agree with another poster — think of it as a positive..if folks are upset and impatient…it means your work is that good they are angry they can’t see it…that would make me damn happy actually.

To everyone complaining — patience…it’ll eventually come to you tube like they always do…so what if you have to wait a few months…the world isn’t ending….(well not until 2012….LOL)…..;> Later.

        I have too many questions.

        1) Did Bladezz really delete tinkerbella’s toon. And, is that why he was using the video camera in the final episode of season 2 was to video the password? If I were bladezz, I would be pretty ticked off too from all that stuff he sent and didnt’ get back.

        2) I take it Bladezz isn’t the rival guildmaster judging from what I saw on the preview.

        3) Is Vork still getting the social security checks?

Codex, I will say that I wish I had an XBox gold account…wish I had an Xbox period, BUT I can wait. Even though I want to see it SOOO bad, I keep watching S1 and S2 in anticipation. Since Microsoft is sponsering, if they wish to give the people that pay for subscriptions to their online stuff first dibs, well then they give first dibs.

Could be worse, people! Get over not being able to see it until Sept. 1st. It’ll still rock.

      • Posted August 30, 2009 at 7:01 am | Permalink

No kidding. Sometimes I think people don’t understand the producing side of passion. To make something you have to be able to fund it and some times that comes with miniature costs outside of the MASSIVE cost of making it and paying everyone for their generous work. Is it a bummer to have to wait? Sure. But its a week. When the show streams on MSN, you won’t be seeing any less of it than anyone else. Honestly, it’s no different than showing it or Date My Avatar at a convention when the rest of the world has to wait. Patience, young Padawan.

Waiting a week makes me go, “Raaaaaawr I want The Guild NOW!” However, I’m not an animal. I think I can be reasonable and wait until tomorrow morning for my fix :)

Keep doing what you’re doing! The product is always a total laughgasm for gamers, an inspiration to other webseries makers, and worth the wait!

I’m going to do my best to word this politely. This act seems rather disrespectful to fans. I understand that obviously you are getting some money out of this, and that money goes to making awesome episodes and such, but this just seems a bit wrong to me. XBOX live gold members only can view it for a whole week? You’ve just made a video on Itunes that fans, many of which who I’m sure don’t have Xbox live gold accounts, or even an xbox, gave up a bit of their money to support you and made your video #1, when they could have just watched the video for free as many times as they wanted on Youtube (myself included) . Now that your fans came out and supported you, and looked forward to watching the season premier on the 25th, (as the video said, which has no mention of that date being the premier for gold members only) you turn around and restrict the episode to one very specific group of people for a whole week for a little extra cash? Hmm…. I hate to say anything bad about you guys, cause The Guild is a brilliant show in every aspect, but I have to call it like I see it, and from my viewpoint, this seems a little greedy

    • Posted August 26, 2009 at 10:35 am | Permalink

As a fan, I don’t see a problem with what’s happening. I don’t have the full story but I do know that starting next week, the new episodes should be available everywhere.

Also, “getting some money”, you realize that this isn’t just for fun, right? These are professional actors and comedians trying to make ends meet. Starving actors, dude…

Anyway, no worries, starting Sept. 1st, we get them weekly. I am patient.

Edgar is right, they are doing this so they can have the show at all. Without Microsoft, it would be much harder to run the show, if they could do it at all. So instead of saying they are greedy, maybe you should go thank them!

I have to agree with Edgar on this one.
While I can see the dismay over waiting a week for a show you really care about you should also understand that these people started with nothing on their budget making the first 3 eps. in a friends apartment.
Its not that they’re ‘greedy’ its more that the creators have a right to do with their creation what they wish.
I’m just glad the show has kept the same goofy, fun, and inspired atmosphere that the other seasons have given to us and waiting a week after waiting this long is a small price to pay for great FREE entertainment. :)

Ya Edgar’s right. just chill out for a sec. Look,They had said that it was going to just be on Live a while before. they had said that August 25th was the date for Live people, and september 1st was for everyone else. And you call them greedy, yet you couldn’t wait one week, after all they’ve done for the fans of this show?
You need to take a look at your comment and tell me how you aren’t being hypocrite.

      • Jay
        Posted August 26, 2009 at 3:29 pm | Permalink

Yeah, I do understand that it isn’t just for fun, and maybe I am overestimating the money they actually got from Itunes. Maybe I’m not, I have no idea what the budget for season 3 is and how much they got from the itunes purchases. Plus, with microsoft sponsoring them now, I didn’t think money would be so much of a problem anymore that they’d still have to resort to making deals to get even more money out of it. Maybe I’m wrong? I’m seriously not trying to sound like I know everything. I’m just admitting that I don’t know and maybe I should have thought more before saying anything. I am sorry for making what was probably too quick a judgement. I guess I’m just more annoyed that, like I said, the video said August 25th on MSN and Zune marketplace as well as xbox, and they posted nothing saying that it will be for xbox gold members only till the day of the premier. At least nothing I found, which I also apologize if I missed any posts stating that, but if there truly was none, I’m sure non gold members would have appreciated a heads up.

The only thing wrong about the whole situation in my opinion is that it was falsely advertised. I for one have no problem waiting a week (I’d even wait months) but I can see why people would get mad if they were told it would come out on the 25th only to find out at that time that it actually comes out a week later.

I have no problem with Xbox gold members having an exclusive look. I just think it should of been announced that way from the start.

Then again, I am quite understanding. For all I know, the decision to only release it 1 week later might of only been made after original date release was announced.

Delays happen all the time anyway. Even forewarned people would of found reasons to complain. That’s just the way people are.

Anyways, I can’t wait to see the next episodes. I’ve been following the guild since it’s debut and I get excited everytime a new episode comes out. Never dissapointed either.

Keep up the good work Knights of the Good!

@Jay, I will have to politely tell you off. You think you can create this show for free? Even if the cast don;t get salaries, you will still have to buy the equipment and and all the supplies to run them. We are getting to see this for free on youtube. I don’t care when, but I’ll be happy when it is available.

I suggest that if you feel this strong, is to cough up the production cost, and you’ll be the first to see it when it’s done. Barring that. SHUT UP.

I’m incredibly dissapointed that those of who either a) Don’t own an Xbox, b) Subscribe to Xbox Live Gold, or c) Use a COMPUTER for their web surfing, got shafted and have to wait a week. I love you guys and this web series, but seriously, getting shafted by corporate greed just sucks. I’m going to have to debate on whether or not I’m actually going to watch this season after being steamrolled by MS.

    • Posted August 26, 2009 at 2:09 pm | Permalink

Microsoft has made this season possible from a logistics point of view. How dare they ask for some exclusivity for shelling out the cash to make a show. Your comment baffles me. Just hang out wait a week (now 5 days) and everything will be peachy. Declaring war on MS and the show for this is a bit beyond daft.

It’s not corporate greed when you’re struggling just to pay anyone at all, dude. Have some respect for the people who make this stuff. Geez. This isn’t like a show on ABC. Is it awesome that x box is putting money into the show? Yes. But it’s not an unlimited amount. To be honest, as an actor/writer making a series for the web, myself, this comment reeks of ignorance and a bit of disrespect for the people who are busting their humps to both make the series and fund it. Yeah, I want to see the new episode RIGHT NOW, but I can respect that they have to give something back to their sponsors and all in all, this is NOT such a big deal.

Hey everyone, this is Felicia. I want to address several issues here, I totally understand that people are disappointed if they’re not an Xbox Gold member with the release schedule. I agree we could have communicated it better and it kills me to disappoint people. However, Xbox funds our show, and to release one episode a bit early didn’t seem unreasonable to us when the rest of the season will be released simultaneously across MSN/Zune/Xbox and they allow us to pay people to make this show.

Does it suck not to be able to see it immediately? Sure, I totally get where you’re coming from. But this is the classic problem of, “how do we pay for web video?” To be offer something exclusive to their Gold members is a great thing for them to be able to do to justify funding web video at all. Like I said, we didn’t control the release schedule and definitely we could have been clearer about the plan with you guys, I’m sorry about that. After next week it won’t be an issue and you can enjoy the show with whatever platform you want, web, Xbox or download.
We are VERY lucky in this climate to be able to pay the bills and even HAVE a sponsor. No other web series has the support we have and the creative freedom we have to make the show the way we want it. We’re still two ladies, me and my producer Kim Evey, who do PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING on this show. After two years of work we can actually pay people a little bit for doing this, and I think that’s awesome.
So again, I apologize and appreciate your understanding, and starting next week hopefully no one will be upset :)

    XOXO
    Felicia

I understand. This is part of the evolution of web video, and how it could rival tradtional TV, or even cable. I had thought this was a sign that Xbox Live could be the next HBO in about five years or so, and it could be.

I’ll be there when we see what happens after the preview we got at Comic-Con last month, and for some time to come. Besides, we still have “Do You Wanna Date Muy Avatar”, which I still say should get an MTV Video Music Award next year (although next month would be even better). Thanks

      Felicia,

You deserve so much respect for what you’re doing that I can’t really think of the right words for it. You’ve poured vast amounts of time, money and your heart into this, and clearly you’ve gone to extremes to make it just right. Production, directing, dialogue… it’s clearly all done with so much soul. I can watch a dozen seasons of network television and not get the same feeling as watching just one ep of The Guild. When I watch The Guild I feel that it’s got the heart and soul of a gamer behind it. I love this show, love it more than anything I’ve ever watched on the internet or TV combined. Because it’s me, in all thouse characters, a little bit of each one is me. And I’m being depicted in a light nobody else has ever dared to put me in.

Felicia Day, you are my new hero. Maybe some day I’d like to meet you so I can smile and forget what to say and shake your hand and wish I wasn’t just another dumbstruck fan.

All my heartfelt hopes and wishes for success and happiness to you Felicia,

It’s rather disappointing to see the QQ directed at The Guild over the issue. I doubt the angst comes from those who have to work for a living.

Cut them a break here. I have an xbox, I don’t have a gold account. Although it is a bit of a bummer to have to wait, I completely respect the fact that people need to be able to eat, put a roof over the head and what not.

I have an xbox and only silver, yet this doesn’t bother me that much. I can certainly wait one whole week. This only doesn’t happen with vids though. I tried downloading a game demo and it was only available for gold members. Go figure. On a side note, being the creative geniuses they are(hello creative team) and an instance of art imitating life, this unfortunate circumstance would make really good material in a future story arc as a wink to those that had to endure the hardship of waiting a whole week! Could you imagine if they had to wait that long? It would be the apocalypse for them. Oh well, I’ve had my say

@Cristian: It isn’t just living. The show has long past the “handycam on a tripod” stage (if it ever was in that stage).

It’s a professional show, made with professional equipment, handled by a professional crew, thus costing tons of money. Unless you’re a millionaire, it’s impossible to finance that yourself.

Be happy that Microsoft sponsors The Guild, because without them there wouldn’t even be a season 3.

The majority of us appreciate the hard work Felicia and Kim (and the staff and friends who came along) have done, building this up from scratch and know that not all internet content is provided free at zero-cost by pixies and fairies!

Its a measure of Felicia’s class that she’s attempted to placate complaints here and recent twitter trolls. Unfortunately a more ‘diverse’ (for want of a better word) range of fans & their expectations is the price for increasing exposure via a ‘[Date My] Avatar-halo effect’ – just don’t let the buggers get you down!

My guess? She wants to stay true to her work. She wants us to know that though the show is sponsored by Xbox, it (and she) have not gone corporate, i.e. sold out. She is way ahead of her time and not enough people (in the industry) are seeing that. Instead of fading into obscurity only to be celebrated later, like others ahead of their time, she is taking the reins on this project and seeing it through any way she can. Very admirable: a true artist.

    • Posted August 30, 2009 at 1:18 pm | Permalink

Felicia doesn’t have the need to explain herself, but it satisfies the overgrown babies who don’t understand true art. Felicia created this for the fun of art, not to cater to noobs, lol.

From someone who’s had experience in various forms of art, I understand the hard work that goes into this. People won’t act for free, if you want something that is truly good quality. But you know what? The average bloke doesn’t get it. He just wants to sit as his comp all day and be catered to. He won’t understand that the cast and crew needs to pay their bills, the prop artists, make-up artists, and wardrobe people need paid. Lots of work goes into just these few minutes! It seems fast but the process takes a few weeks.

But does anyone care? Most of the time, no.

Hey, anyone who has watched the trailer, does it have MAJOR spoilers?

I agree with Christian, I just discovered The Guild three days ago (and watched every episode in about an hour lol) but is waiting one week really worth giving them all your grief? It’s one week come on, you can’t find something to do for one week?

Love the show; I’ve been watching since the beginning. It’s clear you all work hard and have fun doing this — that’s fantastic and makes it more fun to watch (like GTCMS — would love to see more of that someday too). I certainly understand that MSN wants a perk for their support; it’s not the end of the world. I’m sure there are other things they could have asked for that would have gotten more people riled up (product placements perhaps?).

Keep having fun and rolling out the episodes, and we’ll keep watching and enjoying. Thanks for all your efforts to make us smile.

Just became aware of this show about two weeks ago :-0 OMG. How could I have missed this!!!! For the last two weeks my wife and I have been catching up on seasons one and two. Hope this week passes quickly. Great work, talent, and charisma throughout this production. Why does it all come together like this some times? If only the secret could be sold!! I’m just glad you found it.

Have we really just sunk to a new low?

It used to be people just complaining that they had to pay for commercial free content. It used to be “I want it free and no commercials goddammit! Or I’ll whine and whine and whine!

Is it really now “I want it free, no commercials, and I WANT IT NOW GODDAMMIT! Or I’ll post nasty things on your website!”

Seriously people. You have to wait one week? I don’t have xbox gold either. But you know what? I’d rather wait one week, than not have the show. I don’t know what realm you are on where the money constantly respawns without you doing anything, but I don’t login there, and I don’t think any of these actors/workers do either.

One question around funding.. Have you guys considered doing any sort of humorous commercial like stuff, (example, think about how L80ETC joked about not selling out..) or in video product placement?

There’s been alot of talk about how season 3 cost quite abit more than previous seasons…Give them a break, and let them just break even, maybe even head out to the olive garden?

Anyone who doesn’t have an xbox gold membership is welcome to come over to my house and watch it with me. :) couldn’t we stage viewing parties in every city? Lets all bond together in Guildeeness. (man I sound like such a hippy) ;) *no, we are not dating now*
